FBI Report on Crime in the U.S. Falls
The FBI released its crime statistics for 2017. It was a mix of good news and bad news.
Property crimes dropped 3.0 percent, marking the 15th consecutive year these offenses have declined. Burglaries decreased 7.6 percent and larceny-thefts decreased 2.2 percent. While the trends are positive, there were still more than 7.7 million property crimes in 2017 resulting in an estimated $15.3 billion in losses.
Don’t Be A Statistic
At ACS, we like to think that at least one of the reasons why the crime numbers are dropping is because of increased security measures in homes, businesses, at events, in stores and in public locations.
Security cameras make would-be robbers think twice about breaking into a home. The presence of security guards in stores, in parking lots, gated communities and at events prevents shoplifting, break-ins and inappropriate behavior. The number of security guards throughout the country is increasing and the investment in a security guard presence (we think) is paying off.
