Women Shoplifts 30 Times From The Same Store: Example Of Why Retail Security Guards Are Needed

A woman shoplifted at least 30 times from the same store before being caught. It’s another example of why retail security guards are needed in stores and shopping centers.

Shoplifting Spree. The suspected shoplifter stole about $6,000 in merchandise, mostly handbags and jeans, from a TJ Maxx store in Long Beach, California. The retailer’s employees were able to collect surveillance video and other evidence to finally have her arrested.

The TJ Maxx shoplifter cut off anti-theft devices from merchandise to avoid detection when leaving the store. Store management knew it had a serious shoplifting problem, but the thefts kept occurring. Security guards are trained to spot suspicious behavior in stores and respond appropriately. They would have been able to stop the shoplifter before thousands of dollars of merchandise were lost.

Security guards are particularly needed in stores where shoplifting is a chronic problem. Reducing the amount of stolen merchandise can easily offset security service costs.
