Home Security Tips For The Holidays
The holiday season is a time of much activity. There are parties to go to, presents to buy and trips to take to family gatherings. Unfortunately, we can let our guard down when it comes to security during this busy time of the year. Thieves know this and see it as an opportunity to strike. Here are some security measures to follow.
Invest In A Security System. Home security systems have dropped in price. As they have become more popular, thieves are beginning to target homes without these systems.
Don’t Announce Your Travel Plans. Wait until you return from holiday travels before posting vacation photos online.
Keep Presents Out Of Sight. Many families proudly display their Christmas trees near a window so the tree can be seen from the outside. For thieves, that’s a signal there are presents in the home within easy access (break a window, grab and go). Place your tree out of view from the street and keep expensive presents in a secure location until they are ready to be opened.
Keep The Lights On. A well-lit home is a deterrent to thieves. Leave lights on in the house when you’re out for the evening or away. You can also put them on timers. Add outdoor lighting with motion sensors as a means to scare off robbers. Consider keeping a radio or TV on when you’re out as well.
Have Packages Delivered To A UPS Store Or FedEx/Kinkos. If you’re worried that packages might be stolen if dropped off on your front porch, arrange to have them delivered to your local UPS or FedEx/Kinkos store.
Holiday Security Guard Services. Home security guards respond when a security breach is detected. They check residences while homeowners are away on vacation. They monitor properties regularly throughout the day and night for a specific period (i.e., the holiday season) or 365 days a year, providing another layer of security to keep your home safe.
