The holiday season is when we gather to attend events—holiday concerts, parades, plays and parties at public venues—the season is a perfect time to celebrate with friends and family. Because we’ll sometimes find ourselves in large crowds, it’s smart to take precautions to stay safe.

ACS provides security and crowd control management at events. Our security guards continually address safety situations involving families at events—lost children, injuries, personal property theft. Here are safety tips from State Farm (for a full list go to Crowd Safety). One additional suggestion—always look for event security guards. If you need assistance—from finding a lost child to needing an escort to your car—they are there to help.

Stick together

• Keep a diligent eye on your children.
• Dress your group alike or in bright-colored, unique clothing.
• Pick a place to rendezvous with your group if you become separated.
• Remind younger children to avoid strangers.
• Place your phone number in your child’s pocket in case you’re separated.

Prevent injury

• Make sure you know where the exits are.
• Consider leaving if the crowd seems to be getting out of control.
• Wear closed-toe shoes and keep the laces tied to prevent tripping.
• Avoid standing on or near structures that could collapses.
• Leave early or late to avoid the rush when the event is over.

Deter pickpockets

• Carry only your identification, cash and one credit card.
• Carry important items in your front pockets.
• Choose a purse with zipper, button or clasp closures and a strap that hangs across your body.
