Protect Your Belongings During Your Next Beach Trip
A trip to the beach is supposed to be a fun time—sand, sun and water. But it’s also a time when we often leave out belongings unattended—making it easy for thieves to grab wallets and cell phones. Here are tips to keep your personal items secure.
Position Your Towels Near a Lifeguard Station. Not only is this a good idea for water safety reasons, but thieves are less likely to steal belongings near a lifeguard’s watchful eye.
Hide Your Belongings. If you have to leave your towels and beach chairs unattended, place your valuables in a ziplock bag, dig a hole in the sand under your towel and put them here. That way, they will be out of sight and not easy accessible to thieves.
Bring Your Valuables With You. Consider putting your valuables in a waterproof pouch and bring them with you to the water. Just make sure the pouch can’t come off when hit by a strong wave.
Use a Portable Safe. There are several brands and styles available. The best will allow you to attach the unit to a large or stationary object.
Never Leave Items Unattended. This is probably the easiest and less stressful way to keep valuables safe. Don’t all go swimming at once. Always have an adult stay behind.
Leave Valuables Locked in Your Car. Do you really need your wallet while at the beach? Consider pulling out some cash and your ID and leave your wallet in your locked car.
