Security Safeguards When Alcohol Is Served

Having alcohol available at an event requires another layer of security. While the majority of people know when they’ve had enough, there will always be a percentage of individuals who over consume and cause trouble.

Experienced event security guards at the event can help keep guests sober and well behaved.

Require ID

Guests wishing to consume alcohol should go through a checkpoint. A security guard will review ids to make sure guests are of drinking age. As standard practice, guards should also attach wristbands to guests indicating that they have successfully passed through the checkpoint.

Limit Consumption

After each purchase of an alcoholic beverage, have providers punch a hole in the wristband. Limit purchases to a set number of drinks.

Watch for Inebriated Guests

Security guards will watch for guests who have had too much to drink and quietly make sure the guest has a safe ride home. Organizers can train their servers to alert guards if patrons become ill or unruly.

Provide Safe Rides

A security guard should be stationed at exits to make sure those leaving the event are sober or have a designated driver. If not, individuals can be detained until a driving service or family member can drive them home safely.

Post Signs

Use signage to make it clear that anyone showing signs of intoxication will be removed from the event and will be required to pay for transportation home.
