Tragic Church Shooting Shows Importance of Trained Security Staff
The church shooting in Texas is yet another example of violence in the even most sacred of places. In a matter of seconds, the shooter killed two parishioners before he was shot and killed. The death of two innocent lives is tragic but it could have been much worse. The church member who immediately took action and shot the assailant is a member of the church’s volunteer security team. He is a firearms instructor and former reserve sheriff’s deputy. Without his quick response, more could have been killed.
Security Guard Services For Churches. Not all congregations have trained guards as members, yet they still need protection. Security companies provide security guard services for houses of worship. Trained guards look for and detain individuals who are acting suspiciously. In the case of the Texas church shooting, the assailant was wearing an obvious fake beard and wig. Before the shooting, his behavior made parishioners uncomfortable.
Uniformed guards are often a deterrent to criminals. In addition, they take the security responsibility off the shoulders of church members who are not trained to address serious security issues.
In Case of Emergencies. Church securities guards can be invaluable when other emergencies occur– earthquakes, weather incidents, car accidents, medical events. They are trained to escort people from dangerous locations and, when necessary, contact police and fire responders.
As we enter a new year, it doesn’t appear that mass shootings and other senseless violence will stop anytime soon. It’s best to be prepared.
